Motuweb - website updates, support & tuition

Websites work best when they are constantly updated - search engines notice and rank sites higher if they have continuous fresh content.

I can help you write and format material suited to the web, edit and optimise your photos & images, edit and embed videos, create new images (eg: promotional banners), and add new components to your website as required.

What I Charge

My chargeout rate is $60 per hour.

As a rough guide to update costs on my websites, expect to pay $15 for a minor change such as a phone number or address, $20 - $30 to add a few paragraphs, around $100 for an entirely new page. Make sure you find out how much my competitors plan to charge you for similar work.

Sites I build are easy and quick to update. Sites built by others can be much more time-consuming to work on - if you send me the URL I can tell you pretty quickly whether or not it will be a nightmare!

Housecalls a specialty

If you are planning a new website, or thinking of making major changes to an existing site, it is likely that there will be a team of people involved. I'm happy to attend meetings so that I can offer advice and input at the earliest possible stage, minimising the chances of bad decisions being made.

Help for Newbies

If you need instructions on using a browser effectively (I'll try to convince you to use Firefox), re-sizing and cropping photos, using Skype, or other basic internet tasks, you will probably find it easiest on your own computer - if you don't have a laptop I'll visit you as often as required.

I charge my normal hourly rate for travelling time.

I can also host meetings at my home in Albany if that is preferred.

WordPress Tuition

If you intend to update your website frequently, or just enjoy playing with computer software, my advice will be to install a WordPress weblog, which will allow you to publish articles on the web with minimal training. While the learning curve is fairly shallow at the beginning, it is extremely long, and gets increasingly steep. New features are constantly being introduced, and the huge range of third-party plugins is always expanding.

If you want to learn about the more advanced features of WordPress, I offer one-to-one tuition, either at your computer or via Skype. Typically, my clients see me once or twice in person, so that I can make sure everything is working correctly, then subsequent interaction is online. I can be logged in to the Wordpress instalation at the same time as you, watching the changes you make.

Advantages of WordPress:

  • easy to learn
  • allows interaction with visitors
  • built-in RSS feeds
  • hundreds of "add ons" (plugins) for extra functionality
